We implement a therapeutic and academic program, as well as personal and family development. We use a cognitive approach utilizing counseling, role modeling, and the environment. Kids progress through 5 levels and work on goals and life skills. We are growth based rather than a time based program.

Back

The program mission is to improve and develop the mental, physical, and emotional well being of our students and their families. We want to empower our students with traditional values of honesty, respect, and accountability; in order to instill a positive, responsible attitude and prepare them to live successfully within their family and society. We don't push specific beliefs or religions, but try to implement a spiritual component in correlation with the 12 steps and emphasize behavior modification, emotional growth, and life skills to kids with all types of different religious backgrounds.

Sunhawk provides accredited academics through teacher led instruction. Our emphasis, of course, is the therapy and emotional growth. Once the kids are positive and responsible again, school and grades usually improve. They will receive credits similar to attending a public high school.

Back

We try to get your kids positive enough to go back home and deal with school and negative peers. While they are here they will mature and become confident to manage their life and contribute to the family. Kids will perform to a script until a commitment is realized. Commitment causes change. Bonding to staff brings commitment. Staff has no hidden agendas and knows that lecturing doesn't work. They try to be a role model and develop a rapport with the kids, which generates respect and consequently the kids then change because they "want" to, not because they "have" to.

Back

Using the skills at home that are learned here is up to the kids and parents. It isn't easy. Not all kids or parents are going to be "perfect" when they go home again. We will cover all of the anxieties and concerns about going home. If all else fails, your child can be re-enrolled for more treatment.
